Path-Finding in Networks

چکیده

Algorithms that find connections between concepts in semantic networks are inherently inefficient due to their dependence on piecemeal representation of potential paths. A method of reorganizing a link-based network into a path-based representation is argued to allow more efficient search techniques. A path-based representation is presented in terms of the knowledge representation language Conceptual Network. Efficient path-finding algorithms based on this representation are described and analyzed. Search for a path connecting concepts in a network is turned into search among partial paths. The worst-case cost of searching for a simple path is quadratic; that for an extended path between families of closely related concepts is cubic.
